Some time ago my ever-patient hubby told me, "no more" when I suggested we dig up some more lawn for another garden bed.
I decided though to strike while the iron was hot when I had a birthday recently, and told him the only thing I wanted was another little bit of garden.
I really needed it to plant a couple or so more azaleas and also some roses that I have ordered, they will be coming in the next few weeks, and really have no idea where they are going....but I do now.
This is the work in progress, the azaleas in the background are the lovely double white, Pavlova, underplanted with pale pink hyacinths, and anemones.
Hopefully this should be a colourful corner once spring comes around.

Hi Jean,
I support you. My husband was also against, and we had endless discussions. Then I started to expand flower beds 'in secret' just removing some lawn 20-30 additional space along the beds - and when he asked I said 'ah, it is nothing, just the plants needed some more space.... after 2 years he stopped protesting :)
Greetings,
Hi there Jean :-)
Yep... I can relate to this too! My method is a little like Ewa's. Just a gentle expansion of the borders. LOL.
I also have another approach by suggesting I add a bit of lawn to an area I don't need and my 'compensation' is a new border elswhere. It's the way you tell it that's the thing :-D
That's the way to go about it - a very nice birthday present! I'll be looking forward to seeing the result with the azaleas and the roses planted together!
